Stay away from the coatings, too inconsistent among the cheaper offerings. PSA’s upper tier magged and pressure tested bcg are documented to have a failure rate on par with Colt, BCM and other top tier manus. Based on Ron’s findings, the owner of Battlefield Vegas, in 2018 they were putting over half a million rounds down range per month and he said the PSA uppers and bolts just run and run.

Here’s what you want to look for:

Carpenter 158 bolt that has been High Pressure Tested and Magnetic Particle Inspected (HPT and MPI)

8620 carrier, with hard chrome in the bore

Gas key properly fastened and staked with Grade 8 bolts, hard chrome in the bore

For a finish, choose:
-manganese phosphate (that’s the standard milspec finish)
-hard chrome
-NP3
