Ancient rock art

What do you make of ancient rock art? Is it just early human's way of illustrating events or things important enough to record and preserve? I'd like to think so and if so what's the content behind some of these bizarre depictions.

Even today people believe in supernatural beings. Aliens, gods, resurrected saviors and the like. It really isn't that unusual that these people would believe the same thing. Many look like a human/animal mix. The native americans and egyptians both thought along these lines. 1000 years from now would an anthropologist belirve the earth had been visited by aliens if they discovered sci-fi movies?

If its supernatural beliefs haves been around that long, it's hard to think that some of it is not true.
