All Things Magpul?

The Gen1 PMAG had several changes as well as some different packaging.

The most notable change came with the design of the floorplate. 2007 Gen1 had a "Camel Toe" floorplate. 2008 it changed to the one on the right.

So as shown above 2007 & 2007 came in a plain ziploc. The then added an insert. Finally the Gen1 went into a white sealed bag.

When the PMAG started taking off they decided to come out with several different colors, Orange/Blue/Pink/ Zombie Green.

Unfortunately the colors didn't work out, as the color polymer wouldn't hold up to Magpuls testing.

They did get commissioned to do an Orange safety PMAG. There became an overstock and believe that something happened with the training company. There was 2 different runs.

2007: Camel toe floorplate, had a orange follower and retainer. 2 standard mags and one window.

Believe this to be complete, there was 4 dates of production. 10/07, 11/07, 08/08, and 09/08

They did produce several versions of the Translucent PMAG. These mags were sent out for people to put them through the gauntlet! These have never worked out either. Magpul did request that the test mags be returned to Magpul. But, as usual, most could not come up with the mag to return! These are floating around the market! The ones that were sent out were a Gen1 Smoked, Gen1 Clear, A Hybrid Gen1-2 Smoked, and a Gen3 Smoked. There are likely a few others.

I've managed to find a couple of the Gen1 smoked.

Very cool collection. Magpul is definitely a great company and they make great stuff.

I picked up a Magpul sling on a whim and was surprised how nice it is. They could have just slapped their name on a regular web sling but this is definitely an upgrade.

A lot of people assume that the Green MOE wrapper is the Gen2 PMAG. The Gen2 PMAG picked up where the Gen1 left off, with the white wrapper.

Here is the easiest way to identify Gen1-Gen3 PMAG's.

20190610_174017.jpg

Gen1: has 4 stacked squares, the standard PMAG has the window indent.
Gen2: has 3 stacked squares
Gen3: has dot matrix on the lower portion of the mag

Again, the Gen2 PMAG started out in White wrapper, then Brown and Green MOE.
MOE was an effort to save a couple bucks by not offering a dust cover with the PMAG.
