Wow, 38 pages and no mention of one battle tested solution to the problem. I.e., wanting a shorter, more maneuverable platform without sacrificing the already marginal ballistics of the 5.56 cartridge:
The Tavor. 16.5 inch barrel in a OAL of 26.5 inches. Carried by SOF all over the world. Designed specifically for CQB. Unless you are married to the AR platform.

Apologies if this was already mentioned, but here is the most thorough testing of barrel length on 5.56 I have seen (from a testing regimen perspective):

This is all very interesting, but I already said they suck and I am forced to commit to my prior opinion.

I would friggin love a SBR Desert Tech MDR in 556, 300blk, and other calibers.

I really dig bullpups, even had a aug a3 for awhile. I am just not as fast with them, dont have the training, expierence, or hands on to make the switch. Also their 7-8lbs while people ar now getting ars into high 4lbs reliably. If they made a 5lb tavor, I'd learn to be good with it.
