For distances of 800yds+, I’d go with the 175’s. In my experience, 168grn bullets usually work, but 175grn bullets (and heavier) always work. This is assuming that you’re using bullets made for precision work.

Once in awhile I’ll get a student that doesn’t take my recommendation, and runs 168’s. I’ve had a few over the years where the bullet became completely unstable between 800-900yds.

You, Sir, are a daisy. :yo:

Been using the 168 grain federal gold metal match for 30 years and never had any reason to change! 600 yards is about longest distance I’ve shot with them !

I wish I could hit car windows at 1,500!
I’m looking forward to visiting with a friend sometime with endless potential. I remember shooting with my much older cousin (Dang he could shoot) back behind our houses when Rome Craft wasn’t leasing it. We were shooting some fella’s weed shed (bout the size of an out house, cause he only had one TREE in there) . I could just barely make it out without a scope haha. All 223 all day . None of us had scopes, so it was cool when Roger came by.

You had some good eyes back then. I gotta finishing grabbing 2 pieces of gear then I'll be ready to shoot far. Spotting scope and chronograph.

A buddy of mine has an SAI M1A that was tuned up by Hook Boutin. We used to run it to 1450yds with iron sights. Not sure if I can do that anymore.

I've had great results with the 175 grain Lapua Scenar-L in my M1a. Very accurate and consistent out to at least 1000 yards. That's the furthest I've shot it. The factory loaded Creedmoor Sports ammo has worked well and I've managed to reproduce it in a hand load. I was going to post a link, but it looks like Creedmoor Sports has stopped loading their line of ammo.
