    The top edge of the hammer can snag the front of the bolt carrier. Pay close attention to the point that the hammer contacts the firing pin, only working the area above it, round off the profile of the hammer area that contacts the bolt.

    So the thumb safety is actually all the way in but it's stuck in the safe position? Keep in mind that until the safety is all the way in against the frame, it can't rotate up or down since it's notched for installation midway between safe and fire. You may have to wiggle the grip safety to help...

    Take something thin and push the plunger in, then the safety will drop in place.

    If you have not got the mag released yet, just pull the action out of the stock and you should be able to pull the trigger group pins and manipulate it out with minimal effort. Once that's done you can pull the mag retainer back from the top side of the trigger group.
