I was interested in your problem as I have some revolvers in .45. From what I read, these guns have some machining issues on the cylinders, but a lot of the folks say the clips are the problem. Can you see anything not fitting flush if you put the moonclips on the cylinder unloaded? Clip should...
Theres some talk of this problem on the Smith forum, dealing with some ammo problems and limp wristing. If it was mine it would take a trip to Smith and Wesson - they will make it right.
I like to use a tack cloth to get all the sanding residue and apply the stain with clean rag t-shirt, cotton material. I found for me that the water based stains dry a lot faster and also I use the spray on clear (I used the matte) to finish. It's a lot easier to get a nice consistent finish...
Not to derail your thread but I am interested in those grips. I just bought one too and it has plain black plastic grips, were those standard or replacements? thanks
I bought a JP kit and installed it, not happy with the force of which the hammer fell I put the stock hammer spring back in. I lightly polished the sear surface with a q-tip and some simicrome polish and put a small dab of moly there. Incredible improvement. It's still a fairly heavy pull...

Although I typically don't like stippling, that job I could probably live with. Good job on that, like he said it "looks professional" unlike so many we see on here that look like they were completed in 10 minutes.
I have been going by this basic procedure for a long time and for kicks I just checked a few of my Smiths to see which one had the tightest lockup. Much to my surprise I had several with "bank vault" or "welded to the frame" tightness, most notable my Model 15 Smith. Which revolver do you own...
Good job on that, I wouldn't do it to mine but now its YOURS!
For the record, does any particular music help with "stippling"? I've seen some jobs that looked like they were listening to George Jones (for those of you who know that he will play drunk if he shows at all)
I wonder if anyone can recommend a competent revolver tuner in the South Ga area. Action jobs on Smith and Wesson to be exact, I have a good shooting M66 I want to get a slicked up action job on. I would rather drive a bit (50 miles or so around Albany, Ga) than ship this somewhere. Can...
