Ok, just inspected some brass. It looks like it is only happening around 30% of the time. I didn't pull out the old brass just yet, only what I fired over the weekend. I snapped a pic to show of the brass. I can clearly see where the extractor is biting into the brass. It isn't deforming the...
I'm not running a guide rod buffer and the brass is ejecting to 3 or 4 o'clock.
I assume it is modern. It is a RIA 2011 TAC and I've never noticed it before. I'll have to check some of my older brass and see if it was there too. It may have always done it and I just never noticed until now...
So, I've noticed that my 1911 is denting the brass about half way up the casing. I assume it from the ejector spinning the case into the side of the ejection port. Are there any easy fixes for this? I'm a pretty capable person and like to work on my guns. I've not done a ton of research on this...
The plan is to leave it two tone. My hopes are to find someone to cerakote it a flat black for a reasonable price. I've also kicked around the idea of smoothing out the slide where it has the logo and lettering, and have been looking at putting a stainless magwell on it. I've not really decided...
Yea, I learned that the hard way with the barrel bushing. I gave it a bit of a rounded edge on the bottom. All of the other parts were fine. I did reprofile the ambi safety because it had a ridiculous angle on it and was uncomfortable. I ground it down and polished it the way I wanted it. I'll...
Just to update, I had great luck with this advice and my project came out looking great. I detail stripped the 1911 and made a group of parts to be polished and placed the other small parts into a plastic bag for safe keeping. I then wet/dry sanded the really rough pits and machine marks with...
Thanks for the info! I'll give that a shot. I had started the pieces with 400 and worked up to 1500 but I was having a hard time getting all the pits out. I guess I'll drop the grit back down until I get that smoothed out then jump back up to 1500. Once I get It looking good I'll try the steel...
As the title states, I need some advice on how to properly polish metal parts. I'm reatively new to polishing and could use some guidance on the process from start to finish. There are some really talented guys on here that have put out some excellent work and I'd love some step by step...
Call a machine shop or you could always go to gwinnett tech and ask Mr. Bish (welding program instructor). If I had a welder that did TIG I'd get one of my friends to do it for you. GL with it.

There are also some good videos on youtube. You need a hydraulic press and random hand tools. I was looking into this recently but after finding the demilled kits and what they sell for it is more cost effective to just buy an assembled one.
This guy looks like a total tool...
