This has been working for me since the late 70's. Nothing fancy. No special steel just practical materials tried and true. I'm sure you can still get one for under 50 bucks.

Buck Bantam 285 - under $20
I've carried it for about a year and it's been great. There's a clip on the other side. The body is plastic which keeps it light. The blade is nice and thick. Mine is made in the USA too. Its says "USA" under "BUCK" on the blade. I'm pretty sure some of the Bantams are made in China though.

IMO the CRKT Drifter w/titanium oxide handles is the best $20 blade out there. Better than many triple the price.
