I don't do any social media bull crap so I am not hip to all the acronyms or synonyms that are used to shorten the sentences. With that said this one is funny!!!🤣. Sorry for that my ignorance in that area but that just hit the funny bone there for a second. The " Here it comes again " did it. Unfortunately I think we're going to hear a lot of that in the near future. 🤬

If you have taken anything I said as being condescending then you misinterpreted my intent. I stated my opinion from my reading of the rule. Period. I have never been intentionally rude or condescending to anyone on this forum.
I cannot help how other entities interpret or misinterpret the "new rule". In my opinion, as well as many others who have tried to study it, the new rule changes very little if anything in the actual law. If people misinterpret it and shut down private sales to cover their ass then that is just an over reaction on their part in my opinion. The "new rule" is just attempting to further understanding of what the law has always been. As someone else mentioned "There are several people on here that have 4 to 5 different firearms for sale each month and pretty obviously are making an income, If I were them I would be concerned".
Those are the people who should be concerned. That is exactly the ones this new rule was written for. If you have a collection and decide to liquidate it, you are not affected. If you buy a gun and decide you don't like it and sell it, you are not affected. If you buy 5 or 6 guns a month and decide you don't like them and sell them, you might have a problem. That has always been the law. I see nothing new in this new rule.
This really does not effect me being a dealer already and I honestly do not care if you sell 100 guns a month. It is none of my business and honestly, I think the whole GCA of 68 that requires FFLs to is unconstitutional to begin with but it is the law and I personally prefer to do things the legal way. I have no problem with anything someone else does in this area. I am just trying to help people realize that this new rule as they call it does not have the huge effect they all seem to think. You can take my opinion or leave it. It is just an opinion.
"If you have a collection and decide to liquidate it, you are not affected. If you buy a gun and decide you don't like it and sell it, you are not affected."

Is it not probable with the clarity of this new rule that the ATF could bend it to their will and use information gathered from a site like this to build a case? If you buy a gun and don't like it and you paid $350 and its listed here for $400 and some shmuck buys it, you have broken the rules. If you do that once a month and every time there is an electronic example for a year that's 12 offenses. Same logic applies to collections liquidated, if its 30 firearms over the course of a year, you might get a knock at the door. Also, if you bought a Ruger 77 in the 90's for say $700 and you sell it for $ 1300 because collector value went up is that not profit?

You are correct the rule is just verbiage explaining an already existing law, its not new. Maybe I am just another conspiracy theorist but the rule was published for a reason, and I believe that reason is to further track the activity and private sales on sites like this and to build cases, and play the long game, hope I am wrong.

well said.. the rule restates the law in a way that gives more range of assumption. if i am he ATF and i assume you broke the rule that re enforces a the law...the burden of proof is on you.. you will need to 1 bail/bond out of jail. 2 spend a erroneous amount of money on your defense, 3 if you can afford to prove you are innocent. you will need to fight to get all of your other property back.. then you get to try and pick up your life with no compensation...
lost your job.. tough rocks
lost your home... oh well
lost your retirement.. wal mart is hiring greeters.
this "rule" was put in to give the ability to the government to harass and bankrupt anyone who dares to own a gun......

Exactly, and for that reason and even though I have broken no law and don't intend to, I will no longer sell anything privately and I am leaning towards no trades across the internet as well.

so the expo gun show is not allowing private sales.. no carrying in anything, only ffl sales...
so for everyone saying this wont affect anything, wrong... you could still sale if you had a ffl do a 4473. but thay have been told atf will be at the show patrolling for private sales...
not sure how this will affect the odt show or the odt itself... but it will be a problem.
now the expo show is after the 30 day period.. but it is still gonna be a issue....

Can you add a link to your source?

I just checked out the RK page for the May 18th show and it didn't say anything about no private sales...

Also, with the assumption that I am not the only person on here that feels this way, listings will become less and less and eventually the ODT will become more of what it already is in a sense, a social media site with gun listings from ffl dealers.

I have only made a profit on one gun I've ever sold out of 20 to 30 guns over the course of 20 or more years. It was a Beretta silver pigeon over and under shotgun that I picked up at Riverbend Gun club for 800 bucks. When I saw it I gave the guy $100 bill and told him I'd be right back cuz I had to go to the ATM machine. I returned and picked the shotgun up. Like the dumbass I am typically, I sold the gun on GunBroker for like 1250 or 1300 bucks. I made a killing off the shotgun but I could kick myself in the teeth for selling it.

If I had every gun that I've ever owned in my safe I would have to buy three more safes at $1,000 or more a safe and I would never need to buy another gun. I would have 10 1911s, one of each kind of shotgun made, collectible 22 long rifles, five to six Marlin JM stamped rifles and pistols of various sorts by the loads. And I lost my ass on every rifle I sold! Completely brilliant! 🤣🤣🤣
