Previous owner of my 229 polished the barrel. Well, er, removed the finish. Actually looks good and I got a stainless guide rod to match it. That polish looks great!

That looks good. Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish works very well.

Tripoli on a firm cloth wheel, then white rouge on a soft polishing wheel. I used some cheapo Dremel polish wheel kit from a hardware store

Basically... I tried multiple combinations over the years and for pretty much aluminum and steel brown and white works best.
