Worlds oldest whiskey going on sale.

Another very expensive British "spirit" is the last of the Royal Navy's rum ration stock from when the daily ration was ended in 1970. Bottles of it still come up for auction. The rum had been blended over centuries in huge vats with new rum being added as some of the mixture was taken out for consumption, so the formula could never be duplicated today even if they tried. "Pusser's Rum" is the closest you could get (even though it's kind of pricey compared to other rums on the market).
BTW, the term "proof" came from sailors testing their rum's alcohol content by mixing it with gunpowder. If it ignited, it was "proven" good. Many ship's pursers ("pussers") cheated by watering down the rum ration. Look up Black tot day. Hoist a pint today, matey!
