I just watched "The Purge-Origins" or whatever the prequel was called-- it's supposed to explain how the annual "purge" got started.
1-- prior to "the purge" the Nazi-type white supremacist government made up of a party called the "new Founding Fathers" has been flooding black neighborhoods with drugs and guns; and more potent guns than ever before to encourage the blacks to kill each other.
2-- The purge was dreamed up so that poor blacks in the cities would kill each other on one night, thus making the rest of society safer for the rest of the year.
3-- The cold cruel whites of the New Founding Fathers party decided that when the blacks weren't killing each other in great enough numbers, they would send instigators and provocateurs in to cause trouble. White biker gangs, Klansman, federal covert ops teams...
4-- The people in these poor black neighborhoods were offered financial incentives to participate in the purge. EG: going out of your house equaled a small extra bonus payment, but attacking somebody got you more money, and murdering somebody on camera would get you a huge bonus.
All the bad guys in this movie were white, and all the heroes were black.
