That’s true, but wood rots underground and will grow mushroom above the ground off of that wood.

That was the reason for my querstshun. There may be roots running just below the surface. I have them in my yard.

Definitely no roots. They could be a variation of the ringless honey mushrooms. Can't find any pictures that match exactly. Which is the main reason I won't be picking and eating anything out of my yard lol.
Not a chanterelle look alike.could be jack o lanterns. chanterelle look a like. slightly poisonous.

Yep! Ringless Honey’s. I’d want a better look of the underside before I ate em just to be sure, but the characteristics match. Not my fav to cook up cause the texture is weird and you have to cook them for a while. Likely growing from some rotting wood underground. They are popping up everywhere right now
They look like honeys to me but I don’t eat LBMs. Too hard to ID safely. They damn sure ain’t chants or JOLs.
