It's been almost twenty years since I've had to work on an old car.
I was reading up on setting the idle mixture with a vacuum gauge.
I bought one today and got to play with it.
What a handy tool it is!
I can't believe I've gone this long without one. It would have been a quick and easy way to check the engine out before I bought it.
It checked out fine so far using it.
I even felt comfortable adjusting the timing with it.
I'm thinking about getting the fancy digital timing light. I have an old one somewhere.

Got a buddy with an 83 CJ7, got to educate him on points and vacuum systems next week.........

No points on an 83. It runs a Ford duraspark system that can be converted to a HEI system for 25 bucks.

Vac gauge is indispensable, even works as a fuel pressure gauge for pre FI fuel systems.

I ended up with an electronic tool to balance 4 cyl bike carbs, sooo much easier to use than gauges.
