I have a type 1 AK barrel, circa 1948-50. All original components on it except the rear sight leaf.

It has been neglected and needs some TLC.

The original finish is gone and there is pitting on the outside. The bore is shiny and passes the bullet test.

So I'm trying to determine the best way to go about rehabbing it. I'm thinking electrolysis or something similar to remove rust, soak in oil to loosen up the pins, remove components, blast it and blue it.

Any experienced folks out there care to comment, add tips, suggestions, etc?

Anyone out there have a blasting cabinet / equipment? Anyone out there have a setup for bluing?

If you're near Athens/Monroe area I've got hot blue tanks and blast cabinet. Have you thought about Cerakote?

Cerakote is awesome, but I want to keep it looking as close to original as possible. As best I can tell, the original type 1 AK rifles were blued.

Forgot to add, heck YES! That sounds awesome. I live in Gainesville. Can you teach me how to hot blue?
