This is for deer also—- never pass a kill shot waiting on one.In for tips.
Put them to bed.... be in the woods one hour before sundown. Listen for the birds to fly up and nest for the night. Come back before sunup and start some quite gobbles, keekee's and purrs. Be ready when you hear them fly down and try and entice them to come to you.Things you have done and resulted in killing the bird.
The most important thing I’ve done is learn to shut up when I know he is getting closer.it’s hard not to call when you don’t know if he’s still coming.remember time means nothing to a Turkey.
The last 2 mature Toms that I have called in this season have done just that. Gobble from far off and then go dead silent the final 100-150 yards.Got to shut up when they're getting close, even if they're quiet which a lot of time they are.
100% correct I missed one at 12 steps it will make you feel real stupid. When you get a bird in close range……and by close I mean 15 yards or less, aim for the top of the feathers at the bottom of the neck. The head and neck move suddenly at times and your shot pattern may be rather tight up close, causing you to miss. Aiming low on the neck will still kill them cleanly and is a more stationary part of the vitals.
The pic attached is one shot from 10 steps. It flopped for a few seconds and was done after that. View attachment 7200921
