I can deal with wrong terminology. What I can't deal with is improper handling like sweeping, snapping a revolver closed, or dry firing a rim fire. Unfortunately, it seems wrong terminology and mishandling go hand in hand most of the time.

I dry fired a Remington 40x in ,22lr, for many years, when I was not able to get to the firing range, With the same rifle I won 2 Texas championship, a National title and went to the '76 Olympic trials. Got my butt handed to me at the Olympic trials, but it was not the rifles fault.
