The odd (and sad) news of today.

Hampstead's got to be almost 30 miles off-base. It's just inland from Topsail Island. You have to go through there on 17 to turn to go down to Surf City. So Sunday 9AM "officials respond to a missing persons call?" Who is going to report a Marine missing on Sunday morning?

3 found dead in car at North Carolina gas station are identified as Marines stationed nearby

All three were lance corporals. Their cause of death has not been released.

OK, so I just read this article. The way it's written, it makes it sound like the missing person call was unrelated to the three Marines. So the police were looking for a missing person and found the marines. No one had reported them missing. Dang.

What happened?

The only way three young Marines die in a vehicle and there not be a "larger threat to the community", is if it was suicide or an accidental OD. (I doubt they accidentally asphyxiated watching submarine races). Either way, tragic and
really sad.
