I don’t think they can be called “Strategic” at this point. The dumb ass has drained them.

In May or June they had made a commitment (like they always do and fail) to replenish them. I haven't followed up on that progress.

One of the issues that doesn't get much coverage is that the facilities that store the reserve are a natural geological structure which degrades when oil is pumped in or out. The SOR was never intended to be used like a piggy bank that could be drawn down and replenished like you'd fill a regular fuel tank.

The current administration's misuse of this facility has a real long-term cost, even if they were to make good their promise to replenish it.
