RIT dye is dye, for clothing, fabric, and other stuff. I have even seen people use it on plastic and on wood as mentioned above.

Yes it does help. I tried green tye dy once on a junk stock and it came out the color of a Mt. Dew, but did not show the grain. I can't wait to see this as green is my favorite color lol
