I use a Berkley medium Heavy rod with reel combo from Walmart, it cost 19$+tax and has landed everything I can hook with it. I prefer spin casting to bait casting because the drags are less likely to freeze on spinning gear.
Hammonds is the place to go. I buy all of my fishing gear from them.
