We made em all the time as kids, we used wooden match heads as propellant and #7 1/2 shot from a shotty shell for boolets. We'd curl the wire so it'd stand in its own and set over a flame to go boom. Video below, lots of fun back in the day.

Ha! Hadn’t thought about that in a hunert years...used to make them as a kid but use a nail about the size of a carpet tack to pack the match head into the spoke end and it also served as the projectile...pack it right and the nail would penetrate a metal mailbox...we called it a tack/nail gun (before they made them things for construction)
