I don't know why I didn't post this when it happened, but back on September 8th, I had to put Bella down. Quite a few of you had met her, so I thought you should know. She was a friend to so many.

I said goodbye to my best friend today. Bella's back deteriorated to the point where she was in constant pain, so I made the decision to have her euthanized. This morning I picked up a double dose of sedative, loaded Bella into the Jeep and took off for Sweetwater Creek State Park one last time. I gave her the pills and then we played in the water and I brushed her and fed her sausages until the sedative started to kick in. We got back in the Jeep and I drove around until she was sleeping comfortably. When we got to Douglasville Veterinarian Hospital, they got us a room quickly and I carried her in. She was barely conscious when they gave her the first shot and I rubbed and petted her until she was fast asleep. Then they gave her the second shot and she passed peacefully with her head in my hands. Rest in peace sweetheart. Words can't describe how much I miss you.

Sorry to hear this. One of the toughest things to do if you love your dogs like your kids. I know I do. Sounds like you did it the right way. Great way to spend your last day with her.

It's like losing a best friend for sure. I remember going through the same thing when the dog I grew up with (my dad picked him up as a six week old puppy the day I came home from the hospital as a newborn) had to be put down. He was 13 (and so was I) and I was there when the vet came out to our farm to put him down. It was painful to see him go but at the same time I knew it was the right thing to do. I hope you can cherish the memories you had of your sweet dog. Rest in peace, Bella.
