S&W For Sail

Back

Back in the 1970s, I had a friend that destroyed two guns with his reloads on the same day, within minutes of each other.
He had read everything Elmer Keith wrote, and decided to try Elmer's Famous loading for .44 using Hercules 2400 powder, except the fool used Hercules Unique instead, with the same 'grain loading'.

First up, a very hard to obtain S&W Mod. 29 (Dirty Harry Shortage).
He fired 2 rounds, and noticed that the cylinder would not rotate, so ...

He Laid it down and fired the same rounds in a Ruger Flat Top.
One round, cylinder exploded, top strap gone, barrel now at a 90 Degree angle toward the ground.

Another friend found part of the cylinder several days later.

So, our intrepid hero wrote letters to both Smith and Ruger, telling what he had done, and both traded him a new gun for each wreck. He paid shipping.
