RIP Michael Nesmith

Had a long, succesful musical career, spanning numerous genres, including pop, rock, country and folk. Also did a fair amount of TV and film work.

Only Micky Dolenz remains of The Monkees.

Michael Nesmith — considerably more than a Monkee — dies at 78

Nesmith rose to fame as one of the Pre-Fab Four — but he had a long and influential career after the Monkees. He helped invent the format that became MTV, and produced the cult film Repo Man.

Mike wrote a song for Linda Ronstadt called Different Drum. She recorded it when she was a member of Stone Poneys. I had never heard Mike’s version of it until last year. Her version is better by a huge margin. His would never chart. but their version made it to #13.

I well remember the Stone Poneys and that song. I also remember Linda's fling with then Governor of California Jerry Brown. Thanks.
