That first shoot should be the only shot need -- I had a jam master in 06 back in the mid 70s -- The only thing it would cycle with was reloads using new brass only --I bought a new 742 in .06 in 1980. Still have it. It will never extract the first fired case from cold but will cycle perfect after that first round. Was looked at by 2 different gunsmiths and neither could tell me why. I just treated it as a 1 timer and hoped to make a good hit. It spends its retirement in the safe.
Treaded the one I had for a Ruger 77 in 7 magTrade it for a 7400!
never try that --I had one for years, all ways ran it with the bolt wet.
I also had a 742 in a 308 -- and a 243 that didn't give any problem at allI had one for years, all ways ran it with the bolt wet.
The 308 I had taken a lot of deer and hogs. Kinder wish I had keep itI have a 308 and it has always worked well after a complete tear down, polishing, especially the bore and feed and adjusting the mag for that first round trajectory. Great gun after a little TLC.
