I have a couple of rigs I have been shooting, hunting, and just plain playing with that are quite fun with my suppressors. I have a 300BLK SBR upper that we all know is quiet and subsonic .308 out of a bolt gun even more so. Well I figured since I already have my 7.62 can (A YHM 7.62 QD SS) I'd put on the yhm 5.56 mount and run some rounds through it. I got to tell you, although I would certainly say you dont "need" hearing protection, it did indeed still have a pop. 22mag equivalent maybe? I was somewhat shocked that 55gr .223 would be so much more load through the 7.62 can than even the full power 168-175gr full power .308 loads I shoot. I started to think about it a little more and I had some theories I suppose. One, the 7.62 suppressor lets out more gas when shooting .223 through it vs. .308. And two, the 55gr .223 was muzzling about 3220fps vs the 2680 or so out of my 18in bolt gun. Just my assumption. SO I guess my question to all this boils down to what are the quietest loads 5.56/.223 you have experience with out of a suppressor? Im wondering if the 75-77gr .223 match and bthp loads that fly around 2700-2780fps (would have to chronograph my 14.5in 5R POF) would be any quieter? I shouldn't have such a big gap in sound suppression between calibers in this can should I?
here are a couple of the guns I mount it on as pictures speak a thousand words.
