Question About a Car Warranty

Warranty should be from the original purchase date, not manufacture date.
This.

Dealer is full of bull. Cars can sit on a dealers lot for 2 years.

Also, she should check for recalls.

Report to state atty. gen, and Federal Trade Commission.

Plus if repairs were made under representation that they were covered by warranty, that's a whole new contract in itself.

Please don't do all these suggestions at same time.
Climb the Ford ladder first then if unresolved explore
the other routes.
Warranty may be different for drivetrain components
from anything that deals with emissions. Used to be
that way, now maybe all under one blanket.
If she is out of the original warranty period, contacting
Ford customer service may result in them covering it
under 'good will' especially if that part has a history of
failure.
Five weeks for diagnosis? hmmmm. Maybe now w/covid
it takes that long but sure didn't in the old days (1980s)
Some dealers give preference to cars sold by them vs
cars sold by other dealerships.
Also check with auto parts stores to see if that part now
available. if so, see where those are made as well as what
the price difference is. Maybe same as Ford in different box
or....something else. But $70 better than $700 long as the car
runs right.
Another way to look at it is that instead of having a free car
she now has a $700 (or 1700) car. Think a Focus w/58K
probably sells for more than that but I ain't taking time to
lookit up!

this issue got HUGE news press before Ford would fix these, tons of bad press. I doubt Ford will want more bad press over this.

Hope the dealer quits lying and does the right thing. Ford pays the dealer for warranty work. I think their trying to get money from Ford and money from you, (double dipping). They might be doing this more since inventory is down and they not making what they need too from new cars.

I appreciate any advice. She has made arrangements to talk with the dealership manager, (she had been dealing with the service manager). I spoke with my mechanic here.. typical price for the repair is around $700.00.. I think the $1000.00 discount was bogus
I find it incredulous and unbelievable that a car dealer would lie.

Warranty starts from the in service date/date purchased, regardless they are trying to take advantage of your daughter. If they originally stated repairs are free then she should not pay a single red cent.

............ They might be doing this more since inventory is down and they not making what they need to from new cars.
Service department usually creates more profit than New Car Dept.
Used Car Dept also creates more $$ than New. Finance probably
makes more than NCD or UCD. Service probably covers overhead
for entire dealership
Tell her to leave one hell of a nasty google review that will change their tune
Dealers catch so much crap one more nasty comment about like a drop in the ocean.
If/when the problem is solved, a nice note of thanks even if things didn't go perfect
will have better results. Particularly if she returns later with a different problem or
for routine maintenance.

Hell if you want me to I'll call and talk to the service manager I know how to work them SOB's. Sometimes you got to hire a monster to take on a monster. I worked in the car business off and on for 10 years I know every in and out of it.
