It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. Life has been crazy. But our household is still trying to slay some deer. I get a text this morning from my wife around 930 that says, I shot at a buck and I’m pretty sure I missed. After talking through things I told her it didn’t sound like you missed and told her to walk to the last place she saw him standing next to our brush pile and look for blood. She shot this deer from our carport after she dropped the kids off at school doing her hunting by the window while watching a month old baby. Sure enough there was blood and tracked it across the street to where there is 500 acres of 5-6 yr old brush where they clear cut. I was afraid she hit a little back into the gut but figured she got liver by the amount of blood. I advised to hold off a few hours and go in. She’s not one to hold off. Our blood hound that’s around 6-7 months old went straight to this sucker. Jumped him up and then he was in a stare down with my wife and my p365. She fired twice and blew his bottom lip off. He took off again. Finally she found him about a half a mile from our house. Again the blood hound was a life saver as he had went down to the creek to bed and died just about five yards from the creek. My oldest son went with me when I got in from work to go pack this sucker out. Almost a full 1.5 miles round trip and I was dead tired. Luckily she recovered him and lesson learned from quick decision to shoot him and poor shot placement. But I sure am proud of her. And also 8 years ago today she killed her first buck.
