Shane Gosa and I are teaching a class titled "Personal Safety in the Modern World". The course will be held in Watkinsville, GA on November 23rd (Monday) at 5:30 PM. The cost will be $75.00 and will include a canister of pepper spray. The course is open enrollment, and the material will be suitable for anyone 15 years of age or older.
The course material will cover:
• Situational awareness and alertness
• Precursor behaviors to an assault
• Importance of the survivor mindset
• Self-defense techniques using natural or body weapons (strikes)
• Proper use of pepper spray
• Your legal rights to defend yourself
• How to effectively communicate with law enforcement
This is not a shooting course, though we'll discuss the legality of firearms carry and use during the class. This is a course devoted to mindset, observing what's going on around you, and understanding what you can and can't do to defend yourself under the law. Using a firearm isn't always a viable or legal option, so the course will provide skills to avoid trouble or use an intermediate force option when deadly force isn't justified. It will also give you information on how communicate effectively with law enforcement officers and first responders. Both of the instructors are certified through Georgia POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) and are sworn law enforcement officers.
Law enforcement officers who attend the course will receive four hours of POST credit towards their annual training requirements. Students will not be exposed to pepper spray, but it's effects will be demonstrated.
This course will contain useful information for anyone who attends, but is also a great option for friends or family who either cannot or do not wish to carry or use a firearm for self defense.
