Odd way to mount a rear end.

I am working on the 1955 series 1 and this is the setup for the rear end mount. The complete weight of the truck is supported by the four U Bolts. I never thought about it until I looked at removing the rear end to clean it up for paint. I have ordered the new bolts but I just find it odd to rely on four 1/2 inch bolts to support the weight of a truck. It must work as it is still together.

Fairly common method… usually referred to as ‘spring under’ as in spring under the axle.

Actually, the weight of the truck is supported by just the 2 shackle bolts on each side.

I wouldn't have any idea, I replace that sort of hardware immediately.
