I can't help but notice - and appreciate - the number of members here who either serve in the military, are military veterans, or have loved ones who have served or are currently serving. I also can't help but appreciate the fact that many of you very openly support said military members and veterans and even encourage future soldiers such as myself.

So for those who may be intrigued by the idea of military service or have loved ones or friends who have thought about enlisting, I wanted to post up a "Now Hiring" thread to give you some insight as to the benefits of serving and to bring to your attention that the Army (and other branches, I'm sure) is still actively "hiring" men and women in both the full-time (active duty) and part-time (reserve) status.

The following is basically an ad that I printed out and posted at my apartment complex.

If you would like more information, feel free to PM me or email me through the email address in the ad.

I will be entirely candid here and tell you that I have 2 reasons for wanting to introduce you or your friends/loved ones to my recruiters:

1. Of the 9 different recruiters I've talked to in the last 8 years, he has been BY FAR the most helpful and has actually done his JOB - which is to help me enlist.
2. I have obtained my E2 promotion by completing some online tasks/tests. However, I still need at least ONE referral so that I can enlist at a rank of E3.

And, for the record, you can apply for a felony waiver if you have been convicted of a felony. Just know that they are difficult to obtain, and very few (only a few hundred) felony waivers are granted per year. In 2007, more than half of the 511 felony waivers were granted for theft (from burglaries, to bad checks, to stolen cars), about a fourth were granted for drug offenses, and a handful were granted for sexual offense, two for manslaughter and three for vehicular or negligent homicide. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felony_waiver)

I cannot advise on the process to obtain a felony waiver, but my recruiters can.

Wow...the military sure has changed since I was in. Before you even prove yourself worthy and complete basic, you can pick up rank! Good luck in your recruiting efforts and upcoming training.

I would go back but I'm too old...and too broken......but my fantasy wish would be a "Seniors" exchange program....where former military like myself...who has lived a good life...children all grown up and on their own.....could go and take the place of a young man or woman in a dangerous place so they could come home and maybe live a good and safe life....whilst we...the seniors put our lives in harms way......

Its just ranking up from E1 to E3 which, as you probably know, is Private First Class. Not a difference between E1 and E3 except about $100 per month pay. You still have to have 2 years TIS before promoting to E4 (Specialist or Corporal), and you still have to have 4 years TIS before promoting to E5 (Sergeant). Its just getting a head-start on the two quickest promotions.

I had to take extensive Army Knowledge tests and pass a BCT Standard PT before promoting to E2. So, basically, I had to learn everything you learn in BCT (except for drills and formations) on my own and score as high on the PT as you have to do in order to graduate BCT. So, basically, I put myself through the "school" part of BCT on my own.

Thank you for your service, and for your support!
