My wife's niece is a student at Piedmont Demorest College. She has a 92 Cherokee 4.0 automatic 2WD. It made it back to campus today and died. It won't start but the lights and radio come on in the accessory position. And the fuel pump is working. But all she gets is clicking. I'm not anywhere close by a long shot. And I'm not a mechanic or wiring specialist. So I wouldn't be any help if I was there.

If any of yall are close to Habersham Co. I could use a hand here. She's a student. So you know she aint got a lot of money. But she WILL pay for good help. And I'll help with funds if I can. I just need someone that has experience with the pros and cons of older boxy style Cherokees. Send me a message and I will put you in contact with her. Thanks.

Sounds like the starter is dragging. Im not familiar with any shops in demorest but DJ's and A1 auto in toccoa are good guys. Both shops are located in downtown Toccoa. Another idea is to have it towed to North Ga Tech and get cheap labor letting the auto tech kids put a starter on for you.

Thanks for the input yall. I have an old friend from Marietta Googling the possible problems right now. It's over an hour ride from his house but I know he's solid. Plus, electrical **** aint easy to diagnose. Our niece took the battery to an Advance to have it tested shortly after calling us. When she got back and put the battery back it started up again. So I'm just guessing that there is a short somewhere that doesn't cut out until the vehicle warms up.

Yeah, I didn't know that there was anything in Habersham Co but Alto. Also known as Lee Aerondale State Prison. They changed it over to a women's prison a few years ago. But it was the Thunderdome for a good while. Had a cousin in there and took family to visitation. It was way ugly, like a dungeon.

If the alternator isn't charging, it will drain the battery to operate the needed electronics until it shuts off. Need to get a volt meter on the battery with it running to see what/if its putting out a charge. 13.5-14.1 volts if it's charging correctly. Check it on a charged battery though. Also, if you crank it and pull one of the battery terminals and it shuts off, then you're not charging.

I had family up there for years... Always wanted to see an escaped inmate in an orange jumpsuit running away when we drove by it!
