I’ve been studying about the the usgi “T3” and “M3“ carbines from WWII….an M1 carbine equipped with an early night vision scope. They have a very interesting story but not much use after the battle of Okinawa. The Army had commissioned an M1 carbine sniper retrofit kit that could be installed in the field but the war ended before a large quantity of the kits were ever built.
I wanted one of these for my milsurp family but I didn’t want the heavy and expensive night vision rig. I hunted down all the correct parts for the retrofit kit and went with the 7/8” tube M82 scope that was installed on the M1-c garand snipers at the time. I like the single post reticule on those scopes. She shoots great and I really like the way she looks….still waiting on the rubber cup eyepiece for the scope.

Built as a response to Japanese night-infiltration tactics in the Pacific, the T3 carbine fitted with the infrared “Sniperscope, M2” may have looked like a Buck Rogers ray gun, but it saved American lives in the closing days of World War II.
