I've heard that having a backup key makes them easier to break into. If memory serves me right.

Good quality , UL rated digital safe locks do not come with backup keys. There's a reason some safes have what I call malfunction keys. It's because they have the cheapest Chinese junk locks known installed and have an extremely high failure rate.

I went by my coworkers house this weekend and he has a Fort Knox gun safe with both digital and mechanical keypads on the door!!!!!

Nonsense... both occasionally fail.


Rarely does a quality E-lock fail without warning, in this case the lock DID warn the OP and show many redflags that the lock was on the way out but he was told by a dealer online that he only needed replace the keypad which put the OP in this situation.

I’ll take my chances on a mechanical lock and avoid the warnings and red flags.
