Yes. The original sketches go back to 1974, There were a few other hideous variants before the 1977.
It amazes me that 3 years later they (Steyr) are cranking out the STG77 (AUG) as we know it today and haven't changed it much since, but you go to SHOT show and see a prototype of some new cool unobtanium rifle or pistol and 10 years later (or never)today's companies, with all the technology, still can't bring them to market or make 'em work. There a few companies that will take a risk on new designs or R&D. Hell, Dodge is gonna make a Hellcat version of the Pacifica Minivan and the Mustang is a 4 door electric car?

Stinger LMG made from a salvaged Browning .30cal aircraft MG. Has a great story and was mentioned as an improvised weapon in a Medal of Honor citation awarded posthumously to Corporal Stein at Bouganville.
