So I just bought a Kenwood TM-V71 unit; figuring it would be like my D710A I was just going to use CAT5 for the separation cable. To my surprise the face-plate does not take standard CAT5. And, to buy a cable online, the cheapest I found was 44 bucks. After inspecting it, I figured I could fix my problem with cables laying around the office. There is nothing special about the 4 inch wire Kenwood supplied, it's not shielded/choked or constructed in any manner that can't easily be duplicated. With clear tape and a Swiss Army knife, I rigged up a cable that works just fine. Here is my triumphic result:
Pros
Easy
Cheap (you probably have a phone cord and Ethernet cord laying around)
Cons
When my coworker gets back from PTO it'll take him a few hours to figure out why his internet isn't working.
