I have four similar ride-on toys for my grand kids but I made a small change. I picked up some small glass mat ATV 12-volt batteries, wired them in parallel, and taped them up to fit in the same "hole". Now they can all ride for hours! For the youngest ones, they have to keep them in low gear; otherwise, fast speed and those plastic wheels sit and spin but, when they do grab, they haul arse, so be prepared!
FREE BUMP - I am guessing you could do the same with your 6-volt setup but batteries may be too pricey.
