  • Receiver S#: 3142861 Mfg Sep 1944
  • Bolt Serial #: D28287-12SA W9B
  • Barrel Serial #: SA 6535448 7 65 BU22 P
  • The barrels SA made in the 1960s are high quality barrels and good shooters.
  • Barrel is a postwar replacement made by the government's Springfield Armory in July 1965.
  • Barrel SN deciphering
  • “SA” -- Springfield Armory mfg
  • “6535448” -- Drawing number (1960s spare part production ... Think of drawing numbers as "part numbers"). Barrel drawing numbers from wartime through 1957 were "D35448" where "D" was the size of the blueprint sheet on which the drawing was made, and 35448 was the actual number of the part.
  • “7 65” -- Made July (7) of 1965 (65)
  • “BU22” – barrel material lot number … Heat Number i.e., lot number code of the steel from which the barrel was made

Do you have any documentation showing that it is a real NM gun? Serial number doesn’t match up with most NM rifles, and nor does the barrel. True NM guns were made from 1953-1963. Looks like an M1 with a NM op rod and just a modern day made NM site hood. Colors on the rear sight don’t match up.

Your welcome to come look at it. NM is not a simplistic checklist from Google. Multiple people I respect for their knowledge weighed in on description. If its not what you want move on. What really happened at mfg, Armory, in the field, etc don't make practices perfect or "documented".
