Item Description: Still have this Mini 14 Stainless w/ composite stock. Stamped .223 caliber. Model 581. Barrel manufactured to assure accuracy. Pictured is 1- Ruger 5-round mag, 1-Ruger 20-round mag, 2- 30 found aftermarket mags. Scope is Simmons 4-9x30, sling included. Not going to be able to buy these face-to-face much longer. $950.00. .223 ammo available (500 rounds) at $400.00 as a compliment.

I thought so, too. I thought that all of the mini’s with the barrel “enhancement” were 5.56 capable. I believe that the 500- series were the new barrel design. That is actually why I posted the .223 stamp.
 
I researched the inter web about this. The Ruger factory made the .223 caliber and the 5.56 round synonymous. Notice that the stamp doesn’t say .223 Rem. The .223 indicates only the brass diameter. So, according to Ruger,5.56/.223 are the same round (except for the target model.) The “over-pressure” issue that many try to assign to Mini-14’s just is not accurate.

Good man for finding this, I was baffled by the Mini's not being 5.56 capable(according to some anyway). As far as i knew Ruger uses Hammer Forged steel, And i was hard for me to imagine them not equipping these to handle the Nato round. Thanks again, Very nice Mini specimen!! Always loved the stainless on them.
