The Brookie - Salvelinus fontinalis - is native to the Eastern US including the North Georgia Mountains where it is now considered extinct as a true Southern Appalachian sub-species although it is being stocked by hatcheries as the more North Eastern variety which seems to be somewhat hardier than our old "Specs".
