We use 22 Quiets by CCI and the 22 short equivalent. Both are really quiet, but the 22 short version is more quiet than your average air rifle.

An appropriate air rifle with enough velocity to do the trick will be about as loud as 22 quiets. If you aren’t in city limits a 22 should be perfectly legal. Go for head shots. Rabbits usually require slow cooking. Cook them until the joints loosen up. I like to brine my rabbits for 24-48 hours, helps break them down a little and can shorten cooking time.

We used to cut our rabbits up , salt, pepper and flour then fry them like chicken. They are super good that way.

It would be fun to shoot them with your kids. Good teaching moments. If you get a negative response from leo neighbor maybe good opportunity to learn some trapping techniques and teach that?
