For a year now I have been wanting to give rust blueing a try. I now have three rifles that need to be blued and I have collected most of the stuff I will need to do it. The one thing lacking is a iron or steel container for boiling and it needs to be long enough to fit a rifle barrel. I know that the boiling pan should be iron, but I am figuring that if I have a steel pan I can add iron plates from an old weight set in order to get the correct chemical reaction. Does anyone have any ideas?

I am not 100% sure but as long as it is steel it can work. My buddy did an old pitted 30/30 in aluminum and it worked. If you look I believe Brownells offer them in black iron and stainless.
