Insomnia cures?

At least I don't do any caffeine
I drink maybe a cup every 5 days. I get tired but can't sleep. So instead of being a useless tired I will drink a cup to get motivated to get off my ass and reload or fiddle with a gun or two. I have several guns that are dirty so I will clean one. I am going shooting again next week so there was no need to clean one or two I am taking again next week. There was a couple I took out Tuesday I didn't clean yet so I did that.
 
Interestingly, I kept music on all night before I got married. I can GO to sleep in almost any circumstance (rock show, loud movie, driving, conversation) and I originally went in for a sleep study for narcolepsy. Bastards said I had mild sleep apnea and claimed they had to "settle" that before making a diagnosis. The nurse said "it will be life changing, you won't believe how much better you feel." Well, I did not feel even one teensie bit better, more rested, whatever. The machine and I didn’t get along after a month or two and if anything I was more irritable after not sleeping well with the air and the mask.
So, its packed up in the closet and I still don't have a diagnosis. It makes me frequently unbelievably sleepy during the day and randomly wide awake at night. Not "mind racing with thoughts" awake, just wide awake like 2 cups of coffee awake, buzzing. Actually, ironically, I can go to Waffle House and have 2 or 3 cups of coffee Sat morning and come home and nap for an hour. Its a crazy brain in my head.
"ditto" everything for me cept the 'sleep apnea ' I was tested in June & they said I did not have it .

This sleep thing/ issues really Suck !

I suppose that makes sense. I'm a heart patient, doc said no caffeine. I found out why recently. It messes up my heart rhythm
 
Anyone else really struggle with insomnia? Anyone take any medicine for it? I usually use melatonin and valerian and advil pm when its really bad. But Im really getting tired of not sleeping well.

update: December 2021:

This thread has put me on a journey to solve this problem that has bothered me for most of my adult life. I have struggled with sleep for a long time. I was desperate to find answers.

I spent considerable time in prayer and fasting, I met with my Bishop at Church and talked to my wife and doctor. My solutions may not work for everyone but I have found great peace and help.

I failed to sleep due to worry, stress and a racing mind. After a few hours of sleep I would wake up and think about things I have done, not done or needed to do. My mind would race and I could not get back to sleep.

My prayers, my wife and my Bishop helped me find peace through my Savior Jesus Christ.

My Doctor helped me understand I had a mild form of OCD. That made me fixate and obsess overly things I could not change. A mild medication taken every night has helped.

I’ve switched to a plant based diet- not vegetarian or vegan. I try and get most of my calories every day from whole grains, beans and vegetables. I still eat eggs fish and dairy products regularly. I eat chicken occasionally and I eat beef and pork rarely.

I am changing my workouts from mostly weight lifting to include more cardio.

I have been open and honest with my wife about the things that worry me the most.

For the very first time in 30 years I am sleeping well, very well, sometimes too much. These changes have been nothing short of life changing for me. I am grateful for my Savior Jesus Christ and for my wife and modern medicine.

I will update more as I progress on this road. I am still learning my way through this new lifestyle.
I’ve had insomnia all my life. I’m 36 now and for the last 10 weeks 6/7 nights per week I’m now getting decent sleep, 5hrs/broken up per night. I wake a few dozen times and get up and generally take a leak at least once but- I’m starting to feel better. Before my average was bout 2.5 hours/night if I slept probably 4/7 night per week.
I’ve been told by numerous “Doctors” that’s not humanly possible but my wife, old friends, and the sleep studies all say I’m telling the truth. Anyways, I got diagnosed with sleep apnea about 5 years ago… tried about 10+ masks, 2 different machines, and hell - I even got an expensive dental appliance to sleep with. None of it worked and I’ve gained a ton of weight. I started taking
  • Melotonin 5mg
  • Doxylamine succinate 25mg
  • Apple cider vinegar gummies 500mg
I’d feel tired about about 45 minutes, then cleaned up my cpap machine and found a new mask that worked. After weeks of trying it finally took. For me this has been my cure to insomnia. Next I’m going to work on losing 120lbs I’ve accumulated over the years of fat I need to lose.

Be very diligent on food intake. I'm 6'2 185lbs, I was 165 in high school. I've always eaten well and haven't ever let up.
 
Sleep when you're dead.
"Live fast, die young and leave a good looking corpse". I failed on all three.
Honestly if I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.
