Be cautious of the people whom you hire to do work around or in your house. Many crimes committed at private residences are done by people who were known or hired by the homeowner.

Getting multiple references or even better conducting a simple, inexpensive background check is a very good idea for todays world.

There are many, many instances of contract laborers committing crimes against families in the home (everyone remember Amy Smart?) yet often people think it won't happen to them.....

So very true and so many people are clueless to this sound advice.
My next door neighbor fell victim to a home robbery several years ago no doubt due in part to the many service calls they have performed by strangers frequently.
I'm thankful I can handle most anything home maintenance related so big brown, fedex, and the mailman only frequent my front door.
Something as simple as a lawn care service can scope out your place, schedules, and habits and become predator to the unsuspecting....
