Hey Folks,

Not a prepper and not terribly concerned at the moment with the state of things. That being said, I have always felt like having a stash in the storage room is probably not a bad idea, especially with a household of 7. Lets say you were going to spend 1k, what would you stock up on. Live near a water source and have a berkey coming so water is not an issue. Have a woodburning stove in the middle of the kitchen for cooking/heat, but would probably do well to peel off a little cash and fill back up the wood supplies in the garage. Covered up on guns and ammo. Not looking for something to live out end of the world/ 6 month + time frame. Looking for good recommendations on non-perishables to carry 7 folks through a month or two max. Ideally food that has to be rotated every 3+ years as opposed to six months. Figure a 5 pack of bic lighters and some dried beans is a start. Generator maybe? in the event of a 1-2 week power outage to keep the freezers from spoiling, but not sure what gas consumption ect is like on those and if it makes sense. Wide open on suggestions.

Thanks!
Caleb

The first thing I was about to say is “Big Berkely”. Food buckets with rice, beans, pasta, and oatmeal go a long way. First aid kits, solar charging lights, canned goods, vodka, silver coins, portable radios, radiation pills, fish antibiotics….the usual stuff!

Don't forget dirty magazines. We have neglected analog pornography in this digital age. All the internet porn addicted 10 times a day jacker offers will be desperate for stimulation since ruining our brains with the filthiest internet abominations.
$100 worth of filthy magazines (Hustler) now will be worth the equivalent of empires when the grid goes down.

What’s going on in Europe is staying there unless someone gets creative with an emp over our stratosphere then we’d be set back 150 years. I’d not worry about it, Putin is flexing and Russia will take Ukraine most likely... I don’t believe we will get involved until China plays monkey see monkey do and try’s to take Taiwan - then you’ve got something serious to come.

Since your hunkering down, the best food for calories and longevity are beans and rice. Go to Costco and load up. Learn how to can, grow your own garden and that’ll pay off when there’s no meat and will keep you and 7 people plenty busy. I’d still keep a go bag in case you’ve got to split.

get a good gravity water filter that’s the most important I believe- that and a solid pack that can comfortably carry 30-60lbs.

- rei, Walmart, Amazon.. all have excellent supplies
- the lighter your gear the less durable, and more expensive it’ll be.
- it’s a fair trial and error, you want to utilize your gear going camping when you can

- my pack has a gravity water filtration system, small blow up pad and blanket, fire starter, chain to cut tree limbs, knife with sharpener, folding saw, mess kit, .22lr takedown with a brick of ammo w/scope & suppressor, 2 pairs of a socks, rain poncho, safari hat, fishing kit, dial soap bar, med kit with shears, splint, flask + small pharmacy kit of antibiotics and heavy narcotics from previous sinus infections and surgeries compass, local map, small crank solar light/radio, snare wire, empty water carrier, nalgene bottle, pair of gloves, rope, & pack of cards. I’m at 60lbs, it’s a bit heavy but it’s a shtf bug out bag for me and my family to survive in the woods or travel with. I’d probably throw a box or two of 9mm in the bag and pack a few pistols. I don’t pack any food or shelter as I believe I’d be capable of trapping and building temporary shelter. If **** hit the fan in a bug out situation your not going to want to stay still long, only those on the move historically survive.

LOL that’s an excellent point

Most important is having at least a 6 month supply of your family’s necessary prescription meds and various antibiotics on hand.
All the other stuff will just be for someone else to use if you’re lying there dead.

Oregano oil is small, light and highly useful in a med kit for antibiotic properties on cuts, wounds and orally.

What would we do without you?
