How much such I pay for a Hog?

I have a friend that might sell me his pig. The pig is about 400 pounds. What would be a good price for the animal? I am processing and transporting the animal myself.


Some info ...
Hogs dress out at about 50 to 70 Percent of live weight after you remove head, feet, skin, tail and intestines.
Some keep the liver, and heart ? (Not me !)

Now your hog is down to 200 + pounds, and include two front quarters, 2 hams, 2 full ribs, 2 full loins, and some incidentals that make good soup stock.
Plus you have the task of butchering, say 2 hours if you are good at it, 4, if not experienced.
I did all my own butchering, but I have done a lot of it over the years.
Or, you can pay to have it done.

If you are on a tight budget, you might talk to a real butcher, and ask about prices as they probably have better prices than retail chain stores.
