Can anyone help my identify this s&w snubby. Kinda stumped. Is it a 36? Might sounds stupid but I'd like to make sure I list something correctly if I am going to sell or trade it. I thought it was a 36 but I'm not 100% sure. Traded an old gutted ranger boat shell and trailer for it a few years back for the wife. She don't like shooting it cause " it's so loooooooud" uhhhhg. But she wants a 22lr or 22 mag handgun. So hopefully I cN find her a swap with some cash my way for. 22lr semi auto or longer barrel revolver. Anyways. Thanks guys. Yall are the best!

If it's:
- .38 Special
- 5-shot
- blued steel frame and cylinder

Originally, it was called the ".38 Chiefs Special". Later, the ".38" was dropped, and it was just called the "Chiefs Special". In 1957, S&W went to the model number designations, and the Chiefs Special became the model 36.

If it's:
- .38 Special
- 5-shot
- aluminum frame
-steel cylinder

It was originally called the Chiefs Special Airweight, and debuted in September 1952. When model numbers were introduced in 1957, the Chiefs Special Airweight became the model 37.

Going by the pic, the frame appears to be aluminum, which would make it a model 37.

Completely unrelated maybe try ear plugs under ear muffs. Also let her try shooting it with wadcutters. Between the two she may find she has a great gun already. A 22 while a smaller bullet and less recoil will still be quite loud.
