I just shot my G34 with standard sights for the first time yesterday and I’m sold! The frame on the G34 is the same as the G17, (correct me if I’m wrong) so shooters of the 17 have a “feel” reference. Even though the slide is longer, it feels more balanced and I think that has to do with the cutout in the slide.

Purpose built comes to mind when shooting this gun. Not only is felt recoil minimal, but target reacquisition is also improved. I shot close to 200 rounds in sequence with no real fatigue and my eyes were the only reason I took a break. Double taps were some of the best I have personally ever done. My best double tap group was about 3 inches at 7 yards, but averaged around 6”-9”. That is awesome for me, sad but true. Someone with talent could do some real damage with this weapon in competition. I, however, would do better with a shotgun.:(

I know it’s considered more of a comp weapon than a defensive weapon, but it is a Glock and has that proven reliability. It ran without a hiccup and I was using cheap Magtech ammunition. It ran through a 33 round magazine like a sewing machine. The G34 is the smoothest shooting pistol I have personally shot; I would compare it to a 5” 1911 with less perceived recoil.

wdawg249 did a trigger parts polish, installed a 6Lb trigger spring, detail stripped and cleaned her up. He even test shot it when he was done and it’s like night and day! The trigger stacks much later and breaks like glass. The trigger reset is very positive and pronounced and makes it easier to remember to shoot from the reset. No grit or drag, she just goes! I have never felt a Glock trigger as nice as this thanks to wdawg249! I highly recommend getting some trigger work done. And a special thanks to the wdawg!:thumb:

Some pics for comparison and ogling.

I couldn't agree more ! I have the same picture you have (even th OD19 ) and I am very pleased with the accuracy of all three but the 34 is like using your finger gun as a kid. You never missed !

Great review! I did the same with the trigger on my G34 too and agreed it is a definite improvement over the original. The best thing is as you shoot it more it will even become smoother. Easy to shoot fast and accurate with this one.

Sorry it took so long to post, but I just revisited this review and saw the gun porn request. Here is my humble stock 34.

There is a new 'Mixed Drink' out there.

It is called a BinLaden ...

Two shots and a Splash of water.

I’ll start by saying I have fired more rounds through GLOCK 34s than all other firearms combined. The round count is somewhere north of more than most people will fire in their entire lives. To say I am a fan of the pistol would be an understatement.

For the uninformed, the GLOCK 34 is an extended slide version of a GLOCK 17 that was designed around the competitive action and “tactical” minded shooters. The overall size of the pistol is approximately the same as a 5” 1911, but the 34 has a barrel of 5.32” The slide has a cut in the top not for porting, but to reduce the slide weight to that of a GLOCK 17. This was done for reliability purposes. Let me say now that I have never heard even a rumor of anyone having a malfunction that was induced from this hole in the slide. In addition to lengthening the barrel and slide, GLOCK supplies an extended magazine release and extended slide release for easier operation. Finally a GLOCK “-“ connector reduces the trigger pull weight a pound or two. The operation of the pistol is the same as any other GLOCK.

The history of the pistol originates from the GLOCK 17L, which was the original competition model for the company. The 17L has the extended controls and lighter trigger, but sports a 6” barrel and longer slide to match. At the time of introduction, this was in line with equipment and guns being used. As the International Defensive Pistol Association (aka IDPA) became popular and the Production division of USPSA was formed the 17L was deemed too large for “practical” purposes. While the other GLOCK models were available for use, the 34 and its sister 35 (in .40 S&W) were designed with the correct size limitations in mind. Since introduction in the later 1990s, the GLOCK 34 and 35 have been the pistol to beat for their respective divisions.

My experience with the pistols didn’t come until the mid-2000s as I became interested in action shooting sports. My trusty GLOCK 19 at the time was traded in for a brand new 34 and I haven’t been without a 34 since. While I have owned and own many other pistols and GLOCK models, the 34 is the one pistol I can shoot far better than anything else. I have used a GLOCK 34 to compete in IDPA, USPSA, 3 gun, Steel Challenge and other matches. I have also obtained two IDPA Master classifications, win a USPSA State Championship and shoot many firearms classes with one. My choice for a nightstand gun is a GLOCK 34 with a 19rd magazine and a Surefire X300. While I have experimented with different parts or springs, I have always reverted back to the standard GLOCK 34 with a sight change. I am a big fan of the Warren Tactical Sights and have them on all of my GLOCKs, to include 34s. To me, the best trigger job for a 34 is firing a few thousand rounds through one. For me, the 34 is super reliable, accurate and very easy to shoot well. Not having to worry about your pistol holding you back, malfunctioning when you need it most and easy to shoot well makes for a much better time as a shooter.

If you find yourself looking for a pistol that won’t hold you back in competition, a full size pistol for defensive use or just a fun gun for the range look no further than the GLOCK 34.

Pics later
